It has become commonplace to use the top tier of your wedding cake as part of the celebration of the christening of your first born child, but it is nowadays often the case that all or part of the wedding cake will be sponge. Obviously sponge cake would not keep for an extended period, but if we had crafted your wedding cake it is most unlikely that you would be able to resist eating it, be it fruit or sponge!
